Barbara Tannenbaum

Journalist

Barbara Tannenbaum, an award-winning freelance writer based in San Rafael, California, has written about arts and culture, business and politics, travel and the environment for more than twenty years. Her work has been published in such publications as the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, salon.com, San Francisco Magazine, and California History.

She has worked as a magazine editor, business reporter, and television newscaster. In high school, she interviewed John Dean, former White House counsel whose Congressional testimony helped expose Nixon’s abuses of power during the Watergate scandal. Far more glamorous was her one-time summer job selling snacks and drinks during the outdoor concert season at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Her travels have taken her to Jerusalem, Athens, Cairo, the Galapagos Islands, London, Paris, Rome, and Sicily.

She lives with her life partner of twenty-five years,
Leah Brooks, and their pets—Lola and Rudy.
